The Tobago arm of the Kiwanis Club has been praised for its contributions to development on the island and its communities.

The organisation implements projects that have a positive impact on the development of children and recently hosted the cookout event: “Men Can Cook 2” at the Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort. It was aimed at fostering togetherness and community spirit.

Kiwanis Public Relations Officer Marlon Brizan said a cookout was chosen because there are many men in Tobago who are proud of their culinary skills.

“…We wanted to create a synergy, showing the men in Tobago as fathers, brothers, as caregivers so we wanted to show how the bridging gaps works of men within,” Brizan said.

Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles said volunteerism is an important part of social work.

“Our society has lost the zeal for volunteerism and we must find ways to bridge this gap,” he said. “These groups allows for mentoring and succession planning.”

Charles said his involvement in such organisations prepared him for his role as Chief Secretary.
