Youths Help Transform Education

Sustainable development remains a priority for a small island like Tobago and educating people within a society plays a key role in accelerating the progress of this development.

Next Monday, in recognition of International Youth Day, which is celebrated annually on August 12th, the Division of Sport and Youth Affairs is collaborating with the Tobago Youth Council (TYC) for a ‘Youth Chill and Chat’ event on Level 2 of the Port Mall, Scarborough.

Themed ‘Transforming Education’, the event includes a panel discussion featuring Stylist and Entertainer Keylon Whitlock, Bishop’s High School teacher Nkocy Fletcher, and Junior Secretary of Tourism Kayleigh Lewis. This is the third event in the series.

“We’ll be discussing the island’s education system, including the successes and challenges. We’ll also chat about how we as young people can help transform this system that ultimately affects our lives, the labour force and the sustainability and development of the country,” said TYC President Latoyaa Roberts

International Youth Day is an awareness day designated by the United Nations. The 2019 theme highlights efforts to make education more relevant, equitable and inclusive for all youth.
