Pink Room Brunch

The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development hosted its first Pink Room brunch and bra-fitting on October 18th at the Pink Room in Delaford.

Health Secretary Dr. Agatha Carrington indicated that services provided at the Pink Room were important as breast cancer remained one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide.

“A review of the cancer statistics revealed 17 million new cases.  It is expected that this figure  will move to 27.5 million by 2040,” Dr. Carrington said.

“When we look at our own situation, we continue to treat at our oncology centre, a total of 520 or so clients, of which the priority cancers are prostate and breast. We’re treating 200 prostate cancers and a similar figure for breast cancer.”

The event was held in commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is recognized annually in October.
