Twenty-five Enrolled Nursing Assistant (ENA) students officially began their training when the Institute for Healthcare Training and Development was commissioned on December 4th.

Located at the Old Scarborough Hospital, the Institute was formed through a collaborative effort of the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development, the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) and the Division of Education, Innovation and Energy.

“Apart from building capacity, it provides an opportunity for employment for successful candidates who can contribute to improving healthcare delivery to citizens,” said Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development Dr. Agatha Carrington.

“The Division and the TRHA commit to providing a venue in which theory will be delivered by facilitators already employed in the healthcare industry. We are providing a modern hospital for your practicum and internship with a stipend to assist while you are in the classroom for two years,” Dr. Carrington continued, as she addressed the students.

The Health Secretary confirmed that the Division was committed to providing a budget for the cohort of professionals.
