Pupils at 16 Tobago primary schools will benefit from golf training sessions to be conducted by the Trinidad & Tobago Golf Association, which will be funded through the Chief Secretary’s Charity Golf Tournament 2014.

Chief Secretary Orville London presented a cheque for $40,000 to the Association on Thursday (March 4, 2015) at his Calder Hall Office. He congratulated the organisers for staging the tournament over the past 11 years, saying it was instructive that this year “it is golf benefitting golf.”

London added that in the past it was felt that golf was not for the disadvantaged. He said he was happy that the organisers of the tournament are now taking golf to the less fortunate as well.

Golf trainer Carlin Faustin said the training sessions for the primary schools will begin in the new school term.

Chairman of the tournament’s organising committee Jeffrey Azaar said last year’s tournament at the Tobago Plantations golf course made over $62,000 in profit. Part of those funds was used to purchase two washing machines and two dryers for the Infinity Home for the Aged at Lambeau.
