Divisional Overview

The Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development is responsible for the preservation and sustainable management of the island’s natural resources, as well as the marketing and distribution of indigenous agro-based products of Tobago. Further, the Division is charged with the responsibility of improving agricultural production and promoting agriculture as a viable business in Tobago, through the delivery of a number of services.

Vision

A revived (market-led) Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry and Food (AFFF) industry that produces safe and healthy foods with a sustainable environment that contributes to food security and economic development using technologically driven approaches.

Mission

To ready the Division's stakeholders to more successfully manage and realize positive returns from their investment of resources and efforts, by providing them with critical information, technical advice, training and other policy and development support.

Departments / Units
Department of Agriculture

The Department of Agriculture acts as a facilitator to the agricultural sector in Tobago through the delivery of a number of services. These services include technical and advisory services in the areas of livestock and crop production, veterinary and artificial insemination, the production of livestock, land preparation, the administering of agricultural incentives, and also the supply of high quality seed stock and planting material for farmers.

Department of Marine Resources and Fisheries

The Department of Marine Resources and Fisheries (DMRF) is responsible for the sustainable management of the island’s marine resources and fisheries (from the coastline to a distance of 6 nautical miles off shore). The Department seeks to develop and implement policies and procedures that will preserve marine life in Tobago, while educating citizens on the benefits of preservation, thereby contributing to the holistic development of the island and its people.

Department of Natural Resources and Forestry

The Department of Natural Resources and Forestry (DNRF) is responsible for the sustainable management of forests and related natural resources. These include Forestry Recreation (including Parks and Open Areas); Designated Protected Areas; the Regulation of Forest Industries; Watershed Management and Reforestation; Wildlife Management; and Research and Education.

Department of Marketing

The Department of Marketing facilitates stakeholders in the agricultural and related sectors through the provision of technical assistance in the processing and marketing of products to the highest standard of quality, and through its procurement of locally grown commodities in crops and livestock.

Administrative Support Services Department

The Administrative Support Services Department is an amalgamation of Units that provide support to the core Departments of the Division. The Department comprises the Human Resources, Communications, Information Technology and Project Implementation Units.
