Tobago Matters
Tobago Matters is a new, virtual series of community meetings aimed at providing continued accountability and transparency.
The series, which began on July 3rd, enables the THA to engage with the public and share the organization’s plans and initiatives, while also receiving feedback from the public.
THA representatives on Saturday’s panel consisted of Chief Secretary Hon. Ancil K. Dennis, Chief Administrator Bernadette Solomon-Koroma, and Chief Management Accountant in the Office of the Chief Secretary, Petal-Ann Roberts, with Glendora Lashley as Moderator.
Addressing the topic, ‘Governing with Restraint’, Chief Secretary Dennis stated that these were unprecedented times, following a 6-6 tie in the January 25th, 2021 THA election.
“There’s no clear mandate as to who should govern the island of Tobago at this time [and] it is on this basis that I committed to the people of Tobago, and to the people of this country by extension, that we would govern with restraint, which simply means that we would only do what is necessary to continue with the proper administration and governance of the island,” he said.
According to Mr. Dennis, there will be no new projects; however, projects, programmes, and initiatives that started before the THA election will continue. Dennis indicated that the THA will treat with emergencies as they arise, in the public interest.
Prevailing throughout this process has been the public service sector.
“The public service must continue because there are certain goods and services that must be provided to the citizens of the island,” said Solomon-Koroma.
Tobago Matters continues every other Saturday until September 11th.
