Deep cleaning your home and throwing away large appliances is common for some people around the holiday period, including Christmas and ahead of the New Year.

However, white waste accumulates year-round, and some people choose to indiscriminately dump it anywhere and anytime.

This makes the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection’s white waste collection programme vital in helping to keep Tobago’s environment clean. The Division began its Island-Wide Cleanup Campaign 2022 on March 21^st in east Tobago between Charlotteville and Calder Hall.

The campaign continues on March 23^rd in the areas between L’Anse Fourmi to Scarborough. Residents in those areas are asked to put items near the curb so that they can be effectively removed. Then on March 25^th, the campaign will cover areas between Crown Point to Lower Scarborough. See attached flyer for the complete details.

White waste removal goes beyond the removal of unsightly objects from the roadside as they can attract pests.

“As part of the integrated Vector Management System, all possible harbourage for vectors of disease are eliminated, and white waste could provide the environment for proliferation of the same,” Public Health Inspector IV Ricardo Bobb said.

Residents with white waste for disposal are asked to assist in this island-wide cleanup campaign and place the items on the curb the day before collection takes place.

“All waste is taken to the landfill at Studley Park,” he said.
