The Executive Council of the Tobago House of Assembly has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Tobago, which will now manage the Kendal Aquatic Facility for the next two years.

The YMCA currently operates a swimming facility in Courland, which they have managed for a number of years.

“They have demonstrated a significant level of capacity,” Secretary of the Division of Education, Youth Affairs, and Sport (DEYAS) Huey Cadette said during the weekly post Executive Council media briefing at the Calder Hall Administrative Complex. He noted that four persons from the YMCA swim team have made Trinidad and Tobago’s national swim team.

“Of course we would’ve partnered with the YMCA for the construction of the pool at Kendal. Then the Division would have invited tenders and bid proposals for persons to operate the pool at Kendal, and the YMCA proposal was selected.”

“The Executive Council recently approved this MoU that will run for a period of two years. The pool at Kendal will be an Assembly pool; it just will be managed by the YMCA.”

The Aquatic Facility was commissioned in January 2015. It is the second large-scale pool facility in Tobago, an improvement on the YMCA facility in Courland.

The building and pool were constructed by Building Professional Limited.

Management of the facility is scheduled to begin from October 1, 2015.
