Chief Secretary Orville London has extended condolences to the family of accident victim Roosevelt Kerr, who died shortly after the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) bus he was travelling in crashed this morning (October 10) in L’Anse Fourmi.

Kerr was pronounced dead on arrival at the Scarborough General Hospital, while four others were also critically injured in the accident.

“It is a sad day for the people of Tobago when even one life is lost in such circumstances,” London said. “My condolences go out to the family of the gentleman who lost his life, and to those who suffered injuries as a result of this tragedy.”

London visited the injured passengers at the hospital in the company of Secretary of Health and Social Services Claudia Groome-Duke. He offered his sympathies to them and their families.

“We have been assured that the hospital teams are doing everything they can for the injured passengers. Our thoughts are with them and their loved ones,” he stated.

The Chief Secretary said a thorough investigation will be conducted into the accident.

“The investigation starts immediately as Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Gary Melville, and PTSC officials in Tobago and Trinidad are collaborating,” London said.

Minister of Works and Transport Fitzgerald Hinds will meet with officials from across the board tomorrow, in Tobago, as part of the investigation.

London added: “I would like to assure [the public] that this incident will be thoroughly investigated to ensure not only that we determine why this has happened, but also to make certain that another situation like this will be avoided in future.”
