Handing over of Eye Gaze technology device
Daveon Webster, in wheelchair, and his father Dave, are all smiles at the official handing over of an Eye Gaze technology device to him by the representative of the Children’s Ark Foundation Justice Kathy Ann Waterman-Latchoo in the Occupational Therapy Department at the Scarborough General Hospital on Wednesday afternoon. At left is Speech and Language Therapist Natalie Bryan.

The Children’s Ark facilitated the donation of the equipment and we were involved at the screening level in Tobago in July. Bryan received the training and, in turn, taught Daveon to use it.

The Children’s Ark, through an anonymous donor identified 12 possible candidates for the AET Device, ( Advanced EyeGaze Technology ) in July for children between the ages of 4 – 19, with the possibility of a few adult candidates.

The EyeGaze system is an eye-operated computer-like controlled device that empowers a challenged, disabled person who has little or no use of their hands nor speech, to type with their eyes.

This is done like a password by a 15 second calibration with one of their eyes. Each AET Device costs in the vicinity of US $ 12,000.00 – US $15,000.00.
