Tobago’s health sector has been boosted in recent months through partnerships with various organisations.
And at a welcome reception for Members of the Trinbago Progressive Association of the USA (TPA), Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development Dr. Agatha Carrington said her Division’s relationship with the organisation will help boost the sector.
“The Division will leverage the support of the Trinbago Progressive Association in improving non-communicable diseases in the population,” Dr. Carrington said at the June 16 reception at the Fairways Restaurant and Golf Lounge, Lowlands.
She said data on non-communicable diseases collected by the Association will help the Division to properly plan the required interventions.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Division and the Association will be established to formalise the arrangements for outreach healthcare services in Tobago.
TPA president Stephen Isaac said the Association is happy to volunteer its expertise. He committed to sharing all the data collected with the Division.
The New York-based organisation is conducting its medical mission outreach in Tobago from July 15-29.
It includes health fairs, screenings (blood pressure, rapid HIV, diabetes, cholesterol) and health education, as well as donation of equipment (wheelchairs, blood pressure machines and more). These events, in collaboration with the Health Division and the Tobago Regional Health Authority, are free and open to the public.
