Tobago’s “Clean, Green, Safe and Serene” isn’t only a tourism mantra. It’s also an ideal Tobago must live up to.

That’s the view of Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles, who said safety is a key component of that slogan.

“Tobago’s economy is principally a tourism-based economy,” Charles explained, “and unless we live up to ‘Clean, Green, Safe, and Serene’, our developmental efforts will be thwarted or impeded.”

He was speaking at Tuesday’s (August 8) National Crime Prevention Programme (NCPP) Public Outreach interactive session. Charles said there must be a multifaceted approach to crime prevention, as crime stems from a number of social ills.

He said the THA will work along with the NCPP team for the greater good of all of Tobago.

The Chief Secretary added that his administration is focused on forging partnerships for the development of Tobago.

“We need to see this initiative in the context of the larger picture of the development of the island… having regard for one of its main bases of development,” he said.

The session was held at the Canaan/Bon-Accord Community Centre.
