Innovation Unit Coming

Tobago will set up an Innovation Unit in the next fiscal quarter.

This was announced by Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles at Wednesday’s (August 8) post Executive Council media briefing. Charles is also the Tobago House of Assembly’s Secretary of Education, Innovation, and Energy.

He added that schools will also be involved in enhancing innovation on the island.

“Innovation clubs will be established in schools on a voluntary basis,” he said. “[A] committee will be established by October 2018 to drive innovation in both the primary and secondary schools.”

Charles said innovation is already happening on the island, as he highlighted the recent Young Innovators Camp.

“It was organised and executed by a group of teachers led by Mr. Joseph Frederick. The camp was held from July 16 and ended [today]. Activities included circuit design and building, robotics, and animation.”
