More than 340 people participated in the first week of free eye screening, which is being held in Tobago in recognition of World Sight Day.
Screenings began on October 1 at Gulf City Mall, Lowlands, and were also held at various locations. This week, a team of optometrists will conduct screening at various health centres and the Store Bay Beach Facility from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
This year, the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) is collaborating with the Blind Welfare Association and Tobago Eye Care for the initaitive. World Sight Day will be observed on Thursday (October 11) under the theme “Eye Care Everywhere”.
The sessions are being described as “a resounding success,” by coordinator of the outreach programme Madelynn Waldron, an Optometrist at the TRHA Eye Clinic.
“We wanted to meet people where they are and to reach as many as possible,” Waldron said. “It is always encouraging to know that people are interested in their overall health and wellbeing, as sight is very often taken for granted.”
