Tobago recently hosted a day for reflection and remembrance of those who have died due to terminal illness.
The event was held by the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) on October 13 in observance of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.
This year’s theme was “Palliative Care—Because I Matter”, and centred on the physical, psychological social and financial impact of terminal illness on the ailing and their families.
The TRHA implemented the Community Palliative Care Service in September 2014, to support patients who could not visit the clinic due to the stage of their illness.
Patients in Tobago can now receive care and support at home, with visits conducted on Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as an “as-needed” basis.
