Permit Required to Light Fire

The beginning of 2019 marks the start of the dry season.

And Tobagonians are being asked to obey the law by obtaining a permit before lighting any outdoor fires.

Permits must be sought from the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service between now and June 30.

Fires that are not carefully managed can lead to bush fires, which are a serious threat to people and property.

Under the Agricultural Fires Act, the penalty for lighting an outdoor fire without a permit is a $1,500 fine or six months’ imprisonment.

Residents are also being asked to do their part by conserving water, especially in a period that’s expected to be drier than usual over the next few months.
