2019 Vocational Skills Training Programme

Tobago residents have an opportunity to be a part of a programme that enables participants to learn viable skills that can be developed into a career.

The Division of Community Development, Enterprise Development and Labour’s Vocational Skills Training Programme will be launched next month. Secretary of the Division, Marslyn Melville-Jack, said that the February launch of the 2019 edition of the programme starts on Monday (February 4).

There will be 15 day classes, which are from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for unemployed persons and 64 evening classes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Classes will take place at community facilities across the island. There will be trainings in various skillsets including masonry and tiling. Other classes include small appliances repair, hair weaving and braiding, and seasonal cooking.

Registration is open from January 28th through February 1st. Forms can be completed at the Division’s Head Office located at #10 Monterrosi Drive, Glen Road. There is a $100 registration fee per programme.

“This will be charged per employed person,” Melville-Jack said during Wednesday’s (January 23) post Executive Council media briefing at the Victor E Bruce Financial Complex. “However, the registration fee will be waived for persons retired or unemployed,” she said.

“This funding that we receive will go a long way in the running of this [programme] in paying tutors and purchasing material as the case may be,” she said.

The programme continues to grow as the level of active participants increases each year.
