Enriching relationships, enhancing language and sharpening listening skills is not only about utilising the spoken word.

These goals are also achieved through sign language, which helps the speech impaired break the communication barrier and connect and interact better with others. This why the first annual Sign Language Programme, which wrapped up last Thursday (August 23) is being seen as a success.

The programme, which was hosted by the Division of Education, Innovation and Energy in collaboration with the College of Science Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago, (COSTAATT) recently held its closing ceremony at Mardon House, in John Dial.

The four-week programme covered 30 contact hours of learning. In all, 18 Tobagonians participated in the programme, learning to sign in order to communicate with the hearing and speech impaired.

At the closing ceremony, the participants showed off what they learned during the programme.
