“For The Love of Our Children: The Many Facets of School Discipline”.
That was the theme of the Principals’ Conference last Thursday (May 23) at the Tobago Schools Nutrition Society Limited.
The conference brought together primary and secondary school principals to discuss discipline in schools.
Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles, who is also the Secretary for Education, Innovation and Energy, said team effort was necessary when dealing with student discipline.
Charles believes teachers have a better understanding of their students, and can advise on what action was best for them with the help of the Dean of Discipline.
The Chief Secretary said indiscipline is sometimes a coping mechanism for students who can’t read and understand at a reasonable level. He called on the principals and teachers to ensure students leave the primary level competent enough to cope with secondary education.
The conference was hosted by the Division of Education, Innovation, and Energy.
