Approximately 360 students wrote the 2018 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) in Tobago, achieving an overall pass rate of 92.7 per cent.

Four hundred and thirty-four subject entries attained Grades I & II. This was an increase from 366 Grades I and II in 2017.

This year, 921 Tobago candidates from government and government-assisted schools wrote the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination. Passing grades (Grades I, II & III) were obtained in 62.9 per cent of subject entries. This represents an improvement from the 59.5 per cent of passing grades in 2017.

In CSEC, seven of nine schools improved their pass rates this year. As a district, Tobago has seen significant improvement in the past six years. The island moved from an overall pass rate of 30.5 per cent in 2012 to 42.3 per cent in 2018.

The Division of Education, Innovation and Energy stated in a release that it “continues to pledge its commitment to developing and maintaining quality education in Tobago and takes this opportunity to congratulate all Tobago students who performed remarkably well and their hard working teachers”.
