“The development of the teacher ought to result in the development of society,” Education Secretary and Chief Secretary Hon. Kelvin Charles said.
Charles indicated that, from January 2020 there will be a number of training programmes aimed at new teachers in the profession.
He was speaking at the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) Annual Teachers’ Convention on October 11th at the Tobago Nutrition Co-operative Society Ltd. in Canaan.
“I know it is not easy to be a teacher today. I know some of the challenges as I taught for 16 years,” Charles said. He emphasized that despite a reputation of being a thankless profession, teachers must do their best, “Children have talent; it is for us to observe, discern and maximize their potential.”
Charles urged those present to think about the legacy they want to leave as a teacher and conduct themselves appropriately.
