The recent circulation of a video on social media sites of sexual misconduct by students, has engaged the full attention of the Division of Education, Youth Affairs and Sport.
Officials at the Division have reviewed the video and records indicate the following:
- The incident of sexual misconduct on the part of the three students reportedly occurred in December 2011.
- The students and families involved were treated and provided with support, in keeping with the Division’s established protocols.
- In 2013 the video of the incident began re-circulating. Staff assisted by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, identified the name and address of the person responsible for recirculating the video. Shortly thereafter, the video was removed.
- At present, all the persons involved in the video are no longer students of the school.
Secretary Huey Cadette said: “Any type of issues pertaining to sexual misconduct in our schools will be treated seriously. The Division is at this time actively reviewing student support interventions and educational initiatives geared towards alleviating such risky behavior in our schools.”
He added: “The action of those circulating this video, only serves to re-open old wounds, derails healing efforts and is therefore condemned.”
The Division will be working with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to determine the person/s responsible for recirculating this video.
