Closure Of the Hunting Season

The general public is hereby advised that the Hunting Season in Trinidad and Tobago is officially closed from February 28, 2022.  This is according to the Conservation of the Wildlife Act Chapter 67:01, the Fifth Schedule which states the close season runs from the 1st April to 30th September. Accordingly, a grace period throughout the month of March is allowed for the disposal of any prohibited meat articles during the closed season.

Section 7 (1) states: Except as provided under subsection (2) and section 10; no person shall hunt or be a member of a party engaged in hunting any animal during the closed season.

Section 7 (4) states: Anyone who contravenes any such section is liable to a fine of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) or 6 months imprisonment.

The public is reminded that under the CONSERVATION OF WILDLIFE ACT Chapter 67:01 CONSERVATION OF WILDLIFE REGULATIONS deemed to be made under Section 24.

Section 2: (1) (d) states: which states that the State Game Licence issued under section 6 of the Act shall expire on the last day of February in every year.

Section 6 (1) states: No person shall have in his possession, serve, purchase, sell or expose for sale-

  • During the close season, any animal referred to in Parts I and II; or
  • 9b) from 1st April to 30th September annually, any animal referred to in Part II.

Section 6 (2) states: Any person who contravenes the provisions of sub-regulation (1) is liable on summary conviction to a fine of two hundred dollars.

Section (3): The Mandatory Data Form which is part of the State Game Licence shall be correctly completed by the licensee and returned to the Department of Natural Resources and Forestry on or before the 31st day of May in every year.

Section (4) states: that any person who contravenes the provisions of sub regulations (2) or (3) is liable on summary conviction to a fine of two hundred dollars per permit.
