Market vendors currently located at the temporary facility at Shaw Park should be back at the Scarborough location by October
Secretary of the Division of Food Production, Forestry and Fisheries, Hayden Spencer, indicated that the Scarborough market was expected to be completed this month.
During the weekly post Executive Council media briefing, Spencer said the project was ninety-five percent complete with interior work remaining to be done.
“Work is scheduled to be completed at the end of August,” Spencer said. “We are looking at commissioning this facility in September and also having the vendors back to that facility if all goes well.”
The official contract signing of the Scarborough Market Refurbishment Project took place on July 26, 2018 at the office of the Eco-Industrial Development Company of Tobago (E-IDCOT) Ltd., which is located at the Cove Eco-Industrial and Business Park (CEIBP).
E-IDCOT’s Chief Executive Officer, Lois Leslie, E-IDCOT Chairman, Neil Wilson, and Managing Director of Alpha Engineering and Construction, Matthew Devaux, signed the contracts for the development.
The refurbishment of the market is part of the THA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the infrastructure and improve Tobago’s agriculture sector.
