There is much more to be done to support those with disabilities.
That’s the assessment of Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development Dr. Agatha Carrington as Tobago commemorated International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3).
This year’s theme was: “Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality”. And the Tobago Co-ordinating Committee for Persons with Disabilities hosted a celebratory event yesterday for the differently-abled community at the Canaan/ Bon Accord Community Centre.
Dr. Carrington said at least ten percent of the global population are differently-abled. She said in some sphere there is still social exclusion, adding that continued advocacy will help bring change.
“…We need to minimise widespread exclusion, even in the services that we provide,” the Health Secretary stated. “The matter of inclusiveness has taken into account education, transportation arrangement, and even in the healthcare delivery and social services.”
