The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development and the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) continue to work together to advance healthcare services offered to women on the island.
On September 9th, the inaugural Pink Room Surgery took place at the Operating Theatre Department of the Scarborough General Hospital (SGH).
The patient of the Pink Room received three major surgeries, namely a mastectomy, breast reduction (or reconstructive surgery) and plastic surgery, at once, all free to the patient.
This was the first of its kind in any Trinidad and Tobago public health institution. Doctors and other officials were able to view the four-hour-long surgery in real time, via screens.
Councillor Dr. Agatha Carrington, Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development, described the service as “first world” and “ground-breaking”, and an important milestone for the Tobago health sector.
The Pink Room, located at Windward Main Road, Delaford, was launched on May 27th as a step towards the reduction of breast cancer and other women’s health-related issues in Tobago.
In addition, an Art Therapy Service for mental health patients was also introduced at the hospital.
