The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development and the Tobago Regional Health Authority continued their series of community meetings in the village of Moriah on February 20 at the Moriah Community Centre.

This meeting was held primarily to allow residents living between Mason Hall and Runnemede to share their concerns or suggestions on health care service for their areas.

Key issues raised included consideration for providing care for bedridden elderly patients, particularly in rural communities. Suggestions were also made on banning ads that promote alcohol consumption, and assessing service at the Scarborough General Hospital via the mystery shopper approach.

Attendees benefitted from a presentation on strokes and diabetes by Dr. Gerard Antoine, Director, Stroke and Diabetes Centre. The Stroke and Diabetes Centre was commissioned in September. It provides specialist services to help those affected by strokes and diabetes.

The next meeting will take place on Wednesday (February 27) at the Bethel Community Centre for residents from Bethel, Mt. Irvine and Black Rock. The series then moves to the Buccoo Integrated Facility (March 6) for Mt. Pleasant and Buccoo residents.
