Being disabled doesn’t mean being unable.
That’s the message the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development is sharing on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is being observed worldwide today (December 3).
The Division, along with the Tobago Coordinating Committee for Persons with Disabilities, marked the occasion with a church service this morning at the Canaan/Bon-Accord Community Centre.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2018 is themed: “Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality”, as part of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. The 2030 Agenda pledges to “leave no one behind”.
The Division is encouraging people with disabilities to act as beneficiaries and agents of change. This is expected to “fast track the process towards inclusive and sustainable development and promote resilient society for all, including in the context of disaster risk reduction and humanitarian action, and urban development”, the Division stated.
