Ending domestic violence today will result in a better future for Tobago’s citizens.
This is according to Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development Dr. Agatha Carrington, who addressed the Tobago Regional Mother’s Union Walk against Domestic Violence and Child Abuse in Scarborough on Friday (August 10).
“Domestic violence and child abuse destroys children, it destroys families and as a result, it destroys communities,” Dr. Carrington said.
The walk was held by the Tobago Regional Mother’s Union of the Anglican Church, Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago to raise awareness of the dangers of domestic violence and child abuse.
It ended with a presentation on child abuse by Corporal Cavelle Mills of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, who is founder of the CHOICE Foundation. Sherla Mc Kenzie, manager of the Women’s Economic and Technological Empowerment Centre (WETEC), also presented on domestic violence.
And women’s empowerment coach Cheryl Douglas of Femmessence Limited was also featured. Her piece was entitled “Empowering Women”.
