B.Yisrael New Deputy Chief Secretary
On Monday (September 19th), the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elected a new Deputy Chief Secretary, Dr. Faith B.Yisrael.
THA Chief Secretary Hon. Farley Augustine made the nomination of Dr. B.Yisrael for Deputy Chief Secretary and this was seconded by Assemblyman Megan Morrison.
The special sitting of the THA was held due to the recent resignation of the former Deputy Chief Secretary, Assemblyman Watson Duke, which left the position vacant. Mr. Duke formally tendered his resignation as Deputy Chief Secretary on Thursday (September 15th).
On Saturday (September 17th), the Office of the Chief Secretary and the THA Executive Council acknowledged Mr. Duke’s resignation and thanked him for his service over the past nine (9) months.
In accordance with the THA ACT 40 of 1996, the Assemblymen must elect from among themselves a Deputy Chief Secretary.
“After the oath is taken, I will be in a position to issue a release that will indicate how we will treat with the responsibilities that were previously assigned to that of the Deputy Chief Secretary. Dr. B.Yisrael will retain her Secretarial [role] at the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection, in addition to the title of Deputy Chief Secretary,” Augustine said.
The special sitting took place at the Shaw Park Complex, which was followed by a media briefing held by Chief Secretary Hon. Farley Augustine and other Executive Council members of the THA.
