Residents of King Peter’s Bay Hill, Moriah now have easier access to their homes as a new roadway was opened on Friday (December 16th).

The road, which extends 400 metres throughout the community, replaces a pathway of steps that villagers had to climb to access their homes. The project was done through the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries, and Urban Development .

Today we’ve transformed the lives of the residents of King Peter’s Bay Hill, who’ve waited for years for [better] access,“ Infrastructure Secretary Trevor James said, adding that the project was one of several projects that have remained undone over the years. He said that the Assembly aimed to transform Tobago, village by village.

The road upgrade included the demolition of 192 threader stairs, the designing of retaining structures and a drainage system, and the construction of covered box drains.

Where are we going in 2022 with hundreds of steps to walk up?” Chief Secretary Hon. Farley Augustine asked.

For those of us who live in the countryside, we’ve been made to settle, and to think that what we were given 70 plus years ago is enough and should last us for a lifetime…and when you think that somebody thought that people in that area will never want to drive, need an ambulance, or need the hardware to deliver to where they live, somehow we must settle for that. And this project being completed in under 12 months from start to finish is a testament of this administration’s insistence that all Tobagonians have equal opportunity to the resources of the state,” the Chief Secretary said.
