Cassava in demand
Rossbert Lewis and Jamiel Balfour of the URP East District, during harvest time in Roxborough.

Under the mantra – grow local, eat local, more than 1600 cassava sticks were planted in Roxborough by staff members of the Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) in July.

This high carb, low glucose food has now yielded 440 lbs of cassava, which has already been sold to the Tobago Cassava Products Limited (TCPL) and two other local agro-processors.

The URP programme is strategically placed within the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment and has committed to supplying 820 lbs of cassava per week to these processors throughout the harvest period.
