Major Advantage

The environment is Tobago’s legacy, and a key advantage in Tobago’s economic diversification efforts.

That’s the view of Secretary of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment Kwesi Des Vignes ahead of the inaugural Tobago Environmental Partnership Conference. It will be held at Mount Irvine Bay Hotel from May 13-14.

The Conference is being supported by the German Embassy in Port of Spain, one of the lead international partners for the event.

The Secretary welcomed the involvement of the Embassy and the insight it will bring on the issue of climate change.

“I am grateful for the Embassy’s strong support of the initiative, as cooperation at all levels is central to achieving Tobago’s economic sustainability and fulfilling global environmental agreements,” Des Vignes said.

“The environment continues to be one of our major options for economic diversification, it is our competitive advantage as it is our legacy…a balance of the agendas is required to ensure that much value comes from monetising as well as preserving the assets.”

The conference will feature break-out sessions and over 25 environmental exhibitors. Students will also be among the 150-plus invitees for the event.
