Eight thousand pounds of plastic waste.
That’s the amount of waste netted during last month’s Recyclemania project, hosted by the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment. Recyclemania was an internal competition for the Units of the Division, which began in June and ended last month.
It was aimed at enhancing environmental awareness for World Environment Day.
Infrastructure Secretary Kwesi Des Vignes described the event as a success.
“It filled almost 900 extra jumbo bags with waste,” Des Vignes said. He stressed that plastic waste is “a serious challenge” and said the Division will look to the private sector to help facilitate a plastic recycling initiative on the island.
