Rehab Coming

The rehabilitation of Claude Noel Highway is expected to begin in the coming months. Secretary of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment Kwesi Des Vignes said a contract for the project is expected to be awarded in December.

“That is something that we are looking to achieve, of course. We don’t want to start road re-surfacing in the middle of the rainy season, so this is something that Tobagonians can look forward to,” Des Vignes said at the October 10 post Executive Council media briefing.

The works will be done on the two-kilometre stretch from the Rockley Vale intersection to the Orange Hill intersection. It is the latest of roads to get attention from the Road Resurfacing Programme.

The Infrastructure Secretary said: “The Road Resurfacing Programme, though, has continued. In the [2017-18] fiscal [year], we would have resurfaced a number of roads in Tobago. As a matter of fact we would have gone to the point where there was some difficulty in getting bitumen on the island but we would have overcome that challenge.”

Des Vignes said the Division is gearing up for road repair works in Carnbee, Richmond and Argyle in the near future.
