Drivers may have noticed a mobile weighbridge along the highway near Botanical Gardens, Scarborough. This is part of the 2018-19 traffic study for Scarborough, which is ongoing.
Electronic counters have also been installed at undisclosed locations, according to Secretary of Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment Kwesi Des Vignes said.
“We are gathering data,” Des Vignes said during Wednesday’s (December 12) post Executive Council media briefing. “This data will feed into a Scarborough Parking study that we’re also going to commission in the New Year.”
The Infrastructure Secretary said the Division is taking a scientific approach to improving the flow of traffic.
“In order to effectively utilise the system, we need to have the correct, up-to-date data. The last traffic study was done in late 2015-2016 period,” he stated.
In addition, the Division is also looking at including overweight trucks that indiscriminately drive on the roads, placing “everyone at danger” and adding to the Division’s road repair expenses.
