Chief Secretary Condemns Recent Attacks on Tourists

Chief Secretary Hon. Kelvin Charles strongly condemns the recent attacks on two British female tourists at Grafton yesterday morning (March 11).

Police reports confirm that the attacks took place in the vicinity of Grafton Beach around 1:30 am on Monday 11th March, 2019.

The Chief Secretary, who returned yesterday (March 11) from his trip to Germany  for the ITB Berlin tourism and trade show, expresses his utmost displeasure at the incidents and extends sentiments of comfort and concern to the victims and their families.  Mr. Charles says, “I am deeply saddened as well as annoyed by these attacks. Having recently returned from a mission trip to Germany to promote Tobago’s tourism product, it is seriously disheartening to return to this distasteful news.”

Acting Senior Superintendent, TTPS, Tobago Division, Jefferey George, confirms that a 34 year old man from Young Street, Canaan was arrested by a team of police officers led by Woman Sergeant Piggott in connection with the matter.

Both the Chief Secretary and the Tobago Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) are encouraging all residents of Tobago, to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings.  The Chief Secretary and the TTPS, Tobago are also appealing to persons to take personal responsibility in the fight against crime and the promotion and protection of the Tobago tourism industry.
