Dwight Yorke Stadium to be repaired

The Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago is to be given a multi million face lift.

THA Chief Secretary Orville London announced on Wednesday that the stadium built under a BOLT (Build Own Lease Transfer) arrangement was still under the administration of the Ministry of Sport which was something THA administrations have tried to rectify. He said the stadium was still not owned by the government but by the financiers.

London said the stadium will undergo major repairs adding that the entire football field will be dug up and redone while the athletic track will be taken up and re-laid. He said the drainage of the football field was unsatisfactory.

He said work at the stadium will begin next week and will take an estimated three months to complete.

Unfortunately, he said, the upcoming athletic season will be disrupted but the repairs must be done to bring the stadium up an acceptable standard.
