Tobago’s students are gearing up for back to school and RE Promotions is once again giving back ahead of next week’s school opening.
Over 100 students, including those with special needs, received stationery and other important school supplies. The supplies were provided through RE Promotions’ Back to School Charity Initiative. This year marks the fifth year that the organisation is providing donations and Director Kleon McPherson said the aim is to assist underprivileged children.
He said the need for social inclusion among the differently-abled was important.
“In the past, we have assisted persons who had incidents with home fires but what we tried to do this year is to raise awareness of special needs children, as well as assist Happy Haven School and the Tobago School for the Deaf, Speech and Language Impaired. We contacted the various teachers so we actually knew what they were lacking and what they would need,” McPherson said.
The materials were distributed at the auditorium of the Scarborough Library Facility and included a special needs helmet. The organization raises funds throughout the year by hosting various social events.
