A delegation from the Division of Sport and Youth Affairs recently visited St. Vincent and the Grenadines. During the visit, the establishment of a youth exchange development programme between the islands was discussed.
The exchange will centre around the sporting disciplines of football, cricket, and netball.
Among the Tobago delegation were Sport Secretary, Jomo Pitt, and Technical Sport Director in the Division, Lyndell Hoyte-Sanchez. Also attending were representatives from the Tobago Cricket Association, the Tobago Football Association and the Tobago Netball League.
Pitt said significant progress was made during the visit. “We recognised that we need to have a development programme for particularly the smaller islands,” he said.
He said Cecil McKie, the St. Vincent Minister of Tourism, Sports, and Culture, was delighted about the opportunity to collaborate with Tobago.
“As a matter of fact, he even suggested and he has taken a lead on this in establishing a Memorandum of Understanding between the two islands, Tobago and St Vincent. The Attorney General’s office is taking the lead in putting together that document,” he said. The Sport Secretary indicated that the MOU signing could take place before the end of the month.
