Seven Tobago athletes are part of the Trinidad and Tobago track and field team competing at the Pan American Games in Peru.
They are sprinters Kelly Ann Baptiste, Semoy Hackett, Dwight St. Hillaire, Ayla Stansiclaus and Akanni Hislop; national men’s long jump record holder Andwuelle Wright; and javelin thrower Shakeil Waithe.
Secretary of Sport and Youth Affairs Jomo Pitt said he wants to see the athletes use the competition to show their growth.
“I encourage our athletes to use these meets as an opportunity to push the boundaries of what’s possible,” Pitt said.
The T&T contingent features 98 athletes from 18 sporting disciplines, along with 50 officials. The 2019 Games run from July 26 through August 11.
Pitt wished the athletes good luck. He said: “Our teams continue to make us proud at home and abroad.”
