Councillor Deon Isaac was sworn in as the eighth Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) by President Anthony Carmona at President’s House, Tobago on Thursday. (13th February 2014) He replaces Roxborough/Delaford Assemblyman Hilton Sandy who suffered a stroke almost five months ago.

Councillor Isaac will assume responsibilities for the Division of Settlements and Labour, replacing Assemblyman Huey Cadette who has been shifted to the Division of Education, Youth Affairs and Sport. Councillor Gary Melville who held the latter position is now responsible for the Division of Infrastructure and Public Utilities, the position held by Sandy up to the time he fell ill in September.

After swearing in Councillor Isaac, President Carmona told him that public service was an onerous responsibility and that he was strong in his view that he will perform responsibly and do the nation proud.

In a brief address Chief Secretary Orville London thanked the President for hosting the ceremony in Tobago so that all the Secretaries and Assistant Secretaries in his administration could be present for the occasion.

London said he wanted all members of his team to understand that adjustments had to be made to continue at the same level or even at a higher level for the next three quarters of his administration’s term in office and that the responsibility had to be carried out with commitment and collaboration. “I urge all of us to understand that each of us has an individual responsibility to do what has to be done to ensure that the right things are done. All of us have a collective responsibility to ensure we cooperate in a manner that will benefit Tobago,” London said.
