Tenders invited for police stations in Tobago

The process has begun for the construction of two long-awaited police stations in Tobago, with tenders for the projects being invited by the State owned Urban Development Company Limited (UDeCOTT).

The tenders are for police stations at Old Grange and Roxborough. Tenders had previously invited in early 2010, but were discontinued following the general election in that year.

THA Chief Secretary Orville London said he raised the issue at meetings with former prime minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and a number of national security ministers in the following years without success.

But in March (2016), during talks with National Security Minister Edmund Dillon at the Administrative Complex in Calder Hall, the Minister assured Chief Secretary London, that UDeCOTT was preparing bid packages to build the two police stations.

London said that construction of the police stations was outstanding for many years and he is heartened by the promise that construction would start soon.

The stations are being currently operated out of rented premises in Carnbee and Roxborough.
