Tobago Day celebrations begin on December 2

A series of events have been planned to mark the inaugural Tobago Day celebrations starting on Dec 2 with a Praise and Worship service, “Joyful. Joyful.” The public is invited to attend the free event at Shaw Park Complex.

Tobago Day replaces Assembly Day, which was previously held on the same date to commemorate the reestablishment of the Tobago House of Assembly and its contribution to the development of Tobago over the past 35 years. Tobago Day expands the focus beyond the Assembly to the entire island of Tobago

The celebrations have been themed: “The Journey Continues,” to reflect the path of progress and growth that the island must continuously seek.

After the Praise and Worship service on December 2, the official opening of the two-day Tobago Day Exhibition will take place immediately at the Shaw Park Complex. The exhibition runs for two days Dec 2 and 3. The exhibition features displays from the various Divisions and allied agencies. The Office of the Prime Minister, Tobago Affairs, will celebrate Tobago Day with the THA and will also participate in the exhibition.

On Thursday (Dec3) the annual tree lighting ceremony will take place at the Botanic Station in Scarborough.

On Tobago Day (December 4), there will be a Youth Debate at the Assembly Chamber, to which the public is also invited and the Chief Secretary’s Awards takes place that same day.

A second tree lighting ceremony takes place Saturday at the Louis D’Or Nursery on Dec 6 at 6 pm.
