Three Tobago athletes are off to Finland to represent this country at the IAAF 2018 World Junior Championships, which begin tomorrow (July 10).
Standout junior javelin thrower Tyriq Horsford of Zenith Athletic Club leads a squad of 14 that will compete at the Championships. The team also includes Horsford’s Zenith teammate, fellow javelin athlete Talena Murray, along with sprinter Ako Hislop of Kaizen Panthers.
Throws coach Wade Franklyn (Zenith) is part of the Trinidad and Tobago contingent as well.
Secretary of Sport and Youth Affairs Jomo Pitt is encouraging Tobago to show its support for the team.
“These athletes have been consistent and excellent performers for Trinidad and Tobago at the youth level, and we expect nothing less as they gear up for competition on the world stage,” Pitt said.
“We ask all of Tobago to join with the Division in giving the athletes encouragement and support as they chase international glory. We wish them all the best.”
