This is a very critical time in relationship to the development of Tobago and the review of the THA Act, Chief Secretary Orville London has said.
He said it was well known that the John Prince Working Committee appointed to review the THA Act No 40 of 1996 and aspects of the Constitution relating to Tobago will team up with Senior Counsel Russell Martineau for public consultations on March 28, 29 and31 and urged Tobagonians to participate as fully as possible in this exercise. Martineau was commissioned to draft the amending laws.
“It does not matter where your political affiliation is, it does not matter your particular station in life, this to me is the most important conversation that will take place in Tobago in this generation and I am not over stating the situation. It is therefore critical that all of us get involved in the process. I am urging groups; I am urging communities, NGOs, CBOs, whatever, to ensure that they get the documents available at the committee’s office in the Unit Trust Building, Scarborough and other areas,” London said.
“Get the document, it is very user friendly, easy readable and you will be able to see what changes have come about,” he added.
London noted that this was not the final document but a draft discussion document and as such any aspect of the document can be changed. He said: “This is your time to get involved. The final document will be instructed by the discussions at the sessions,” he said.
The consultations will be held at the Roxborough Secondary School on March 28, the Moriah Government Primary School on March 29 and the Scarborough Secondary on March 31 where Tobagonians will be invited to discuss the draft amendments to the THA Act No 40 of 1996 and the Constitution.
